COVID-19 isn’t just a health crisis. It has highlighted and exacerbated long-standing issues in public transport, homes, hospitals, schools, and more, revealing new inadequacies. The same applies to offices: traditional 1:10 ratios are unhealthy, long-term leases are unsustainable for many businesses, open-plan layouts are impractical in the age of Zoom, and remote working is a new challenge. If we can work anywhere, why go to the office?
The pandemic has made us rethink our workspaces, prompting this research. We ask: If traditional offices are obsolete, what is the future workplace? After working from home, what kind of office is worth returning to? This research addresses these questions, exploring materials, leasing models, and more.
